Aim: This assessment is designed to simulate the process of preparing and delivering an academic poster.

Task: You will compose, develop, and deliver in person a 10-minute poster presentation on a topic that was discussed as part of the unit. 

Requirements:

  • Presentation: Deliver a 10-minute poster presentation.
  • Documentation: Ahead of the presentation, submit a PDF copy of your poster to Moodle.

Steps to Complete the Assessment

1. Choose Your Topic:

  • Select a topic from a selection of unit content.
  • The unit leader will compile a document containing all topics that you can choose from for this assignment.

2. Conduct Research:

  • Gather information from empirical sources (e.g., academic articles, books).
  •  Focus on both empirical evidence and current issues relating to your topic.  

3. Develop Your Presentation:

  • Organise your research into a clear and logical structure following the guidance structure that the unit leader will provide.
  • Apply relevant theories and perspectives to analyse your chosen topic.
  • Make sure your arguments are well-supported with evidence from your research.

4. Prepare Supporting Documentation:

  • Academic poster: Create a visually appealing, easy-to-follow poster.

5. Practice Your Presentation:

  • Rehearse your poster presentation several times to ensure you are comfortable with the content and timing.
  • Focus on clear speaking, confident body language, and engaging your audience.

6. Deliver Your Presentation:

  • Present your topic to your class or designated audience.
  • Engage with your audience by encouraging questions and discussions.

  • A digital, academic poster to resolve a scenario aligned with one of the themes covered on the unit and relevant to the discipline of their course (e.g., Strength & Conditioning, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Psychology). This is an individual assignment (10-minute-long poster presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q&A). 

Guidance on the size of submission/duration of presentation

  • Presentations should be 10 minutes long, but can be 0-10% (i.e., a maximum of 1 minute) longer without penalty.

Penalties for overlong submissions/presentations

The following penalty will apply if presentations are significantly longer than 10 minutes:
