Case study
This case analysis is developed on a 14-year-old girl named Sarah and the impact of parental divorce. The case is described in a social work agency due to the changes in behavior and emotional issues. Sarah is a vivid example of the issues of child protective services in the context of family separation. Sarah’s history, the problems described, and the measures to be taken while working with trauma victims are described.
Amanda’s father worked in a factory but now is a retiree; her mother is a retired school teacher with several health problems, so the main roles of care are reduced to moral support due to physical limitations in terms of presence. Robert’s father hardly interacts with Robert and Sarah because of their conflicts; he is retired military personnel. Robert’s mother a housewife, tries to keep in touch with Sarah, but this is not very easy because Robert sees his daughter irregularly. The focus on Sarah’s great-grandparents helps to put into perspective the family roots, the values of those relations, and family dynamics that have presumably made their way through generations
PART A & B Assessment Description
PART A: Videoed Role Play
You will form triads to include – the client, Social Worker & an observer. Each member of the triad will have the opportunity to play all these 3 roles.
In this task, you will be assessed in the Social Work practitioner role, and you will be required to demonstrate effective use of both Trauma Informed Practice principles together with a component of Narrative Therapy- dominant story. Realistically, due to the fact your role-play will only be 10 minutes, you should focus on only one element of Narrative Therapy-.
Imagine that this is your second or third session working with the client, so you have already developed and established a rapport and there will be no need to demonstrate the introductory details of an initial session.
Please select one of your triad to play your character from Assessment 1 case scenario. You will have opportunities in the class time to practice & develop the roles. During the role play, the observer of the triad will need to video the role play using the device owned by the Social Worker (role). The role play should then be uploaded as per instructions provided by your teacher.
PART B: Written Reflection
