While working in this project, students will become familiar with the policies and issues of the political parties of the United States. Students will select five issues of their choice in the areas of foreign policy, equal rights, environmental issues, education and immigration. They will analyze and present their views as part of a Presidential Campaign. Instructional Objectives: Awareness of the two major political parties’ agenda. Create a basic understanding of how to run a campaign. Research and present the issues identified. Understand the impact these 5 issues have on society. Win the Campaign. Assignment: Groups of five students present: Name of Political Party Slogan of Political Party Colors of Political Party Agenda and policies based on the five issues Collaborative Effort/Collaborative Grade 20 minute presentation Win the Election MDC Outcomes: Communicate effectively using listening, speaking, reading and writing. Formulate strategies to locate, evaluate and apply information Information Literacy Global, Cultural and Historical Perspectives Personal, Civic and Social Responsibility Ethical Thinking Natural Systems and the Environment Environmental Issues considered: Global Warming, Water pollution, Air Pollution, Melting of the Ice Cap, Sea Level Rising, Architectural Restructuring and Rewriting of the Housing Code, Electric Cars/Alternative Fuels, Clean Water, Social Justice Issues, Indigenous Rights and Property, Religious Beliefs, Government Responsibility. Conclusion: Incorporation of environmental issues into a political campaign to cover and address the various policies of our present government and student views and presentations incorporated into their campaign agenda. The connection between interdisciplinary issues is discussed and analyzed across a multitude of disciplines.
