Purpose: To capture your insights from the course into a set of ideas that will improve your personal approach to professional
development or guide your support of learning in organizations as you go forward in your career.
Assignment: Select one of the prompts below and write a 3-5 page paper (1000-2000 words) that captures your learning from
the course
• A new leaf. Describe two to four ideas that you gleaned from our studies that will impact the way you manage
your own learning going forward. Name-drop specific theories or comments from our discussions that led to this
change of perspective.
• My favorite theory. Identify the learning theory that most resonated with you and describe the specific ideas that
spoke to you. Explain why you related to this theory, and how you plan to apply it.
• Proposal to powers-that-be. Given what you’ve learned about adult and organizational learning this term, what
recommendation(s) would you advocate for in your organization? Write a memo to your manager, your
company’s L&D leader, or senior management that describes and advocates for a specific action (or actions) that
you believe will improve learning in your organization.
• My identity as a scholar-practitioner. Reflect on our discussions about what it means to integrate the theory and
research of our field into your ongoing work as an HR/HRD professional. How do you plan to enact the scholar-
practitioner role and remain up-to-date on emerging practices and research in your area of expertise?
