This part is based on the article “Frame AlignmentProcesses” by Snow et al. (1986) as well as our discussion on research concepts. Answer these three questions:

1) What are frame amplification, frame bridging, and frame extension? (briefly define these processes using your own words) 

2) Provide your own example of frame amplification or frame extension and explain how this specific framing proces can aid in mobilization of a social movement (you can use any social movement or social movement organization to illustrate your point). 

3) Come up with a research question that deals with some aspect of a social movement. Convert this question into a hypothesis. Identify the independent and dependent variables. 

Part 2:

Based on the reading by Fantasia and Voss (Ch.2 An Exceptionally Hostile Terrain), answer these questions: 

1. Differentiate between the kind of unionism represented by the AFL and the kind of unionism represented by the Knights of Labor and/or the Wobblies. (your answer should include things like who were the members of these organizations and the kind of demands or issues these organizations were fighting for)

2. What was the significance of the rapid decline of the Knights and the Wobblies for the larger labor movement in the U.S.?  

3. Was the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act good or bad for the labor movement in the U.S.? (Briefly explain your answer by providing examples of specific provisions included in the Act).
