The use of KPIs is one strategy for measuring success. KPIs identify the unique goals of a project, against which you can compare progress. What will success look like for a specific project? Will success be defined as meeting schedule and budget? Or will success be defined as decreasing the average patient wait time by 10 minutes? Once the KPIs are identified for a project, you must define how you measure and track progress toward its goals. Collecting data about your KPIs allows you to stay focused and objective when determining if you are achieving success. SMART is an acronym for framing outcomes as specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time based. Using the SMART format for KPIs helps to keep a project focused and supports project managers in measuring success of the project. For this Discussion, you consider how the use of KPIs can guide timeline, budget, goals, or other key aspects of a project plan. Examine this project through the lens of a project manager by addressing the following: Provide a brief overview of your selected project. From the project manager’s perspective, identify three KPIs that can be defined for the beginning of this project and explain your rationale for selecting these KPIs. Explain how each identified KPI can be framed as a SMART goal in SMART format. Describe the extent to which these KPIs were met or unmet at the end of the project.
