The second is to develop the variables and theoretical framework that will be used in the study. You will use previously published articles on a theory (or on a related topic) to determine the variables that make up your project. You will use the literature review to deduce a hypothesis that you can test in data. (Remember, the hypothesis is just one potential answer to the question.)
Overall, the literature review sets the context for the entire research project by explaining what others have found in researching the same or similar specific research questions.
