Prepare for the Final Paper
The final assignment is a final paper based on co-authoring an essay on the practical applications of group theory. The essay is written as a group project with assigned course colleagues. As co-authors, write the paper and be mindful of group concepts and dynamics as progress is made using reflection in action. Submit the same paper with all of the names included.
Create, complete, and include an observation form based on group dynamics to be used later for the final paper assignment.
Forming a Group
To begin working, meet with the assigned group and begin “forming.” Decide how to complete the work together and plan / organize the co-creation of your final paper. It may be helpful to consider some traditional models of group formation to integrate with more recent theories and ideas. More traditional ideas include the theories of Bruce Tuckman (1965), Tuckman and Jensen, (1977), also found in the Johnson and Johnson course text, Chapter One.
Concurrent Assignment: Being a Participant Observer
Using the guidelines on being a Participant Observer (PO) in the Johnson and Johnson text, also known as Group-as-a-Whole in other publications, create an observation form. Enter your observations about the forming stage onto the form, with additional comments.
Continue to be a PO throughout the project. Reflect on how the principles in the course material “showed up” in your team process and include examples of at least 5 course principles in your observations.
