Terrorism has dominated the global stage for the past 20 years as a significant threat to the critical infrastructure of the United States. Terrorists (individuals and organizations) have sought to obtain and use weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). There has been a national security debate regarding whether to include the use of cyberattacks in the chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) taxonomy within the realm of WMDs.

For this essay, you are to analyze how cyberattacks can be included as a WMD component (i.e., CBRN-C). Then, describe the potential for terrorists to use cyberattacks against critical infrastructure as a means of a WMD event. Finally, examine how and why the U.S. counter-proliferation efforts would stop this from happening.
