You will write a research proposal for this course. This Statement of Problem assignment is
the beginning of the proposal. There are two parts to this assignment:
1) Literature Review Notes for Problem Statement (40 points)
2) Written Statement of Problem (60 points)
1) Literature Review Notes for Problem Statement (40 points)
• Create a spreadsheet to organize your literature review for the problem statement.
You can use the template provided and modify it accordingly.
• Identify at least 5 peer-reviewed research articles relevant to your research topic.
• Read the articles and create notes for each article in the spreadsheet.
• Submit the spreadsheet with the written Statement of Problem.
2) Written Statement of Problem (60 points)
In 2-3 paragraphs, you will present:
1. Topic being studied
2. Research Problem
3. Justification for the importance of the problem
4. Deficiencies in existing knowledge about the problem
5. Audiences that may benefit from the study
TOPIC
Select a research topic that is specific and can be investigated through collecting and
analyzing data. DO NOT PROPOSE AN ESSAY TOPIC. Topics that are too broad are
diTicult to execute and interpret. You’ll waste a lot of time shifting through literature in
diTerent areas, so be nice to yourself.
Examples of broad vs specific topics:

How do the requirements of no child left

annual yearly progress reporting
requirements on the ways teachers teach?
Prevalence of voice disorders in
transgender individuals undergoing
hormone therapy
Perceptual and acoustic outcomes of voice

individuals immediately after therapy and
15 months lat
