Wk 4 – Signature Assignment: Legal Defense
In this week’s assignment, you will continue to gain exposure to cases and legal defenses. Use the internet to your advantage as you work on this assignment. Another week and another case for you as the paralegal. You are keeping busy and next on the agenda is for you to help the attorney you are assisting on a case to begin crafting a defense for the client.
Select a criminal law case from the Opinions of the Court page of the U.S. Supreme Court website. Again, as in week 2, make sure the case you choose deals with a criminal violation. DO NOT USE CASES WHERE THERE WAS NO CRIMINAL PROSECUTION AT
TRIAL. Ask me first before using a case you are not 100% sure fits these criteria.
Determine the defense that was used for the crime at the trial (and not the arguments used on appeal, if different). Search the internet for types of legal defenses in criminal law.
Write a 700- to 1,050-word defense as if you were supporting the attorney representing the client.
Format your paper according to APA guidelines.
Submit your assignment as a Microsoft Word document and as an attachment to the assignment tab .
