1. Analyze and apply foundational community development theories and principles to their lived experiences
2. Critically assess how community development values and goals fit personal values and goals as a community worker
3. Discuss pioneering ideas in the community development field with applicability to an area of personal passion
4. Demonstrate reflective and critical writing skills
ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE
The objective is to write a self-reflection paper that summarizes the student’s learning in module one about community development theory, concepts, principles, goals and values and the application of these to ‘self’ and the type of community development work each student feels best suited to pursue.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Reflect on the different models of community development work – locality development, social action & social planning. Select the one you are most comfortable engaging in as a practitioner and explain why with examples from your own values, attributes and lived experience.
2. Identify the model you feel most uncomfortable engaging in and explain why. What would the challenges or fears be for you working in this way? What skills or confidence might you need to develop to embrace this model?
3. Select a pioneer in the community development field that you admire and would love to emulate. Describe this person’s contributions to the sector that resonate with you personally. What type of community work would you like to engage in and describe two ideas your pioneer offers that you would apply to your area of passion.
