Read the following in your Evidence-based Practice in Nursing & Healthcare: A Guide to Best Practice textbook:

Chapter 8, “Advancing Optimal Care with Rigorously Developed Clinical Practice Guidelines and Evidence-Based Recommendations”

This chapter describes the process for evaluating clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). It also contains a list of general and specific guideline databases (see Box 8.1).

While the National Guidelines Clearinghouse through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has closed, a few other web pages that contain national clinical practice guidelines are available, each with its strengths and weaknesses.

The ECRI houses the old guidelines from the former National Guideline Clearinghouse. You will need to register for free access to the Guidelines Trust.
