While it is more regulated than it was in its infancy, many would describe the internet as the modern ‘wild west.’ Such, almost, infinite freedom on the internet also opens one up to somewhat easy victimization. Some would suggest that many of the proposed internet security laws we have discussed would, in a sense, turn the internet into an endless series of ‘gated communities.’ And just as in the ‘real world,’ access to such ‘communities’ would depend, in part, on one’s economic status. Discuss your views on internet freedom versus internet security. Also, discuss whether the internet should be more of an open source of information and media or be based more on one’s financial ability to afford to pay for access to different ‘gated communities.’
