You are a member of a city planning task force in a rapidly growing metropolitan area with a significant tourist population. The city has recently experienced an increase in incidents affecting personal security such as street harassment, petty theft, and bag snatching. As such there are concerns about safety in public spaces such as parks, transit stations and areas with nightlife. The municipal leadership is committed to making the urban environment safer and more resilient for all residents and visitors.
To address this, the city is launching the “Safe City Challenge”, a competition to propose innovative, practical solutions that improve personal security and promote a sense of safety in public urban spaces. You have been invited to participate in the competition to submit a proposal.
For the purpose of this assignment, please choose one of the following cities as the focus of your report: Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta.
(a) Appraise the current state of personal security in your chosen urban area by providing an overview of the personal security situation and briefly discussing FIVE (5) important issues around personal security.

(b) Identify FIVE (5) key vulnerabilities and risk factors that affect personal security in high-risk areas of your chosen location. Formulate a set of FIVE (5) innovative interventions (technological, social, environmental, or policy-based) to enhance personal security and resilience in the chosen area. For each of your proposed interventions, describe how it will contribute to personal security.

(c) Examine the potential effectiveness and feasibility of your proposed interventions. Analyse how your plan would ensure inclusivity and accommodate vulnerable elements of the community.
