Human Resource Policy Project Assignment Instructions
Instructions
In a research paper, provide researched rationale for the nature and substance of your 4 selected, distinct policies. This paper is to be reflective of an academic research paper. The research paper must address the reasoning and/or rationale for the inclusion of the selected policy elements in a policy manual.
The selected policies must correctly address employment legislation pertinent to the stated size of the company (15–25 employees). In elaborating on the rationale, you may want to consider the following questions: Why should these elements be in a policy manual? What laws or principles mandate an organization follow these guidelines? What cases have established precedent for this issue to be addressed clearly in an organization’s employee policy manual?
Support your rationale with (at minimum) 10 reputable, practitioner sources (ex. SHRM) or scholarly journals. Sources need to be current (published in the last 5 years). Government websites (FLSA, EEO, etc.) can also count towards your sources (note some government websites will not be a match – such as the dress code for the Wisconsin’s FDA investigators. The .gov isn’t automatically an applicable source. The 10 sources are in addition to the required use of the textbook and the Bible. So there should be a total of 12 overall sources!!!!!
The paper must be at least 1,750 words, in addition to the cover page, the abstract, and the references page. It must be written in current APA format. Papers submitted with less than the minimum word count will not receive full credit in this area of the grading rubric.
This is going to help you so much on the largest work in the class – the research paper. I recommend picking a type of small company in your mind of 15-25 employees (eye doctor, sports shop, coffee shop, lawn care, etc.). Not a franchise and something with employees (but not too many employees). Peek at the paper requirements for some samples of policies (be warned if you pick Code of Conduct this isn’t the formal CoC large firms use to report to investors this will be more formal rules for all of your employees. Pick four policies that are a good match. If I ran a lawn care business I might pick dress code, moonlighting, attendance, and paid time off. They don’t need to be the most important policies – just four. Make sure that the sources you use are scholarly and also relevant to the United States and aren’t too specific to industry. Note: A journal on discrimination in Transylvanian ceramic engineers is not going to have good carryover to your lawn care company. The definition of discrimination will vary by law as well. Remember, you have 10 sources and four policies so you’re likely looking at 2-3 sources per policy. The course textbook and the bible are also required sources so keep this in mind.
Small Fictional Company:
“Turf Kings Lawn Care” Do not fixate on the company
4 Chosen Policies
1. Dress Code Policy
2. Vacation policy
3. Attendance Policy
4. Alcohol and Substance Abuse Policy
Keep in mind you don’t have 20 workers but 15-25. You could have 18 or 23 tomorrow., this is ust the range. The number isn’t important. Do not fixate on the company. This is a formal paper on why the policies and the research (not we wear khakis and closed toe shoes) but your formal writing on why a company has a dress code
