For this assignment, you will interview a person from a diverse population in order to gain understanding about a person different than yourself.

Examples of diverse populations:

  • Religion
  • Gender
  • Disability

In your interview, be sure to include engagement strategies for dealing with diverse clients and personal biases. Record the interview (audio only) and provide a written transcript of the interview. There are various free applications you can use to record with your phone or computer that provides a transcript:

  • Wavosaur Free Audio Recorder

Submit the transcript of the interview along with a summary (300-500 words) that explains how social workers should use the NASW Code of Ethics with decision-making regarding diverse populations. Also explain how you would handle your personal biases (with cultural competency) if the interviewee were your client.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
