Phase 1 Example

For this assignment it was suggested in chapter 3 (page 49) and in Module 5 Table of Specification video for you to view state standards online or secure a copy of state standards or K to 12 Curriculum Guide to assist with learning objectives. The state standards or curriculum guide will assist you with obtaining objectives (learning competencies) for this assignment.

If you do not have access to a K-12th grade curriculum guide, you should use the state standards to complete this assignment. Each state has standards of learning that are expected for students to learn throughout the year for each subject matter and grade level.

For example:

The State of Missouri Learning Standards defines the knowledge and skills students need in each level and course for success in college, other post-secondary training and careers. These expectations are aligned to the Show-Me Standards, which define what all Missouri high school graduates should know and be able to do.

The Show-Me Standards were approved as a final regulation by the Missouri State Board of Education, January 18, 1996. The standards are built around the belief that success of Missouri’s students depends on both a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, and the ability of students to apply their knowledge and skills to the kinds of problems and decisions they will likely encounter after they graduate. The standards serve as a blueprint from which local school districts may write challenging curriculum to help all students achieve.

I have attached a copy of a portion of the State of Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) 2nd grade Relationships and Algebraic Thinking standards for your viewing.

Please do not use this example as part of your project.

Example:

Knowledge, skills or attributes to be assessed.

Knowledge: I am assessing students’ understanding of the foundations for multiplication and division.

Grade level:  2nd grade

Subject Matter: Mathematics

Objective:  Determine if a set of objects has an odd or even number of members.

Phase 1 (Milestone 1)

Write a short (1 page) description of the knowledge, skills, or attributes (KSA) you are planning to assess and the rationale for choosing the subject matter (for example math, science, etc.), knowledge, skills or attributes, and grade level for your project. It is also important in this phase to team up with a classmate who (ideally) shares a similar interest.
