Cultural Competence and Ethical Decision Making for Health Care Professionals
To become really good at something there has to be a firm foundation to build upon. The information provided in this course affords you the knowledge to build or hone culturally competent skills. You need to understand what building blocks are most useful in this process. Developing this mini-essay and applying your knowledge with what you learn in your research for this activity provide you with the building blocks to continue to develop and hone your cultural awareness, sensitivity, and competence!

Content Requirements

Reflecting on the knowledge you have gained thus far and by researching further:

1. Identify and describe five building blocks of cultural competence you would use to train a nurse that is culturally unaware.
2. Explain why you chose these five building blocks and how they direct and enhance your cultural awareness, sensitivity, and competence in providing culturally appropriate care.
3. Finally, discuss how you use, or have used, or intend to use the building blocks you chose in your professional nursing practice.
4. This essay should demonstrate professional nursing knowledge, values, and ethical considerations relating to culturally aware and sensitive care.

Format

o Your mini-essay must be at least one full page and the maximum is two full pages (1-inch margins, double spaced). Cover page and references are not included in the page count.
o Scholarly/academic writing is required.
Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation are required.
o Correct APA format is required.
o Running head not required.
o Use at least three scholarly resources published within the past five years.
o Submit as a Word document by the due date.
